A Texas Sized Showdown With Rangers

It is funny how baseball works, one day a team can be in first place in their division, the next they can be fighting for the right to even make an appearance in the playoffs. The American League West race appears like it’s going to come down to the very last game of the season between the Angels and the Texas Rangers. The Angels aren’t playing bad, they just could be playing better. They took one of two from the New York Yankees when the actually had a golden opportunity to sweep them and at the very least keep pace with the Texas Rangers, instead they must hope that the Detroit Tigers are able to defeat the Texas Rangers in order not to fall behind by six games.

The Angels lost to the New York Yankees with the final score 10 runs to 6 base running mistakes and missed opportunities caused for the Angels demise today late in the game, the Angels had the bases loaded in both the sixth and the seventh innings with the Yankees leading 6 to 5. Both opportunities were squandered, four runs given up by Scot Shields and the recipe that the Angels had cooking, spoiled. Scot Shields appears like age is catching up with him. The Angels can no longer count on him in key situations. It was his poor command that led to the Halos’ defeat.

The Rangers are not letting up, and that’s a concern, we can’t seem to gain any ground on them. When they lose, we lose, and vice versa it’s going to come down to the head to head games between our two teams that is going to decide the winner. Our offense is clicking and as long as we can keep our defensive lapses to a minimum I think we can give the Rangers a good scare and eventually overtake them. Assuming that they lose tonight and things stay the same, if we are able to sweep the Rangers, by the end of the series we will only be two games behind them. I hope that Rangers’ fans don’t underestimate the Angels, the race is far from over and it’s not about who is ahead, but it’s who has the stamina to actually finish the race. It has yet to be seen if the Rangers’ inexperience in division races and the Texas heat will be their downfall. I think it will be. Like I have said before this should be fun. We are the three time defending champions, and I strongly believe when the smoke clears, we will win number four.
